Abbasi

Abbasi, also Abassi ('abbāsī) is the name for an old silver coin as well as an old gold coin from Persia. It was named after Abbas I of Persia.

The silver coin was first stamped in 1620 with a weight of 7.7 grams, then until the middle of the 18th century with an ever lower weight. In Azerbaijan and Georgia Abbasi was coined from 1762, between 1804 and 1832 in Tbilisi in Russia. In Afghanistan the coin under Habibullah Khan and Amanullah Khan was coined until 1926.

Originally the silver Abbasi 4 Shahi = 10 Bisti = 40 Kazbeki = 200 Dinar. The Goldmünze corresponded 2000 Dinars. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
