The Republic of Cyprus is divided into six administrative districts: Districts in the hands of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Main article: Territorial organization of the Turkish Republic of the North of Cyprus

Each district is governed by a representative of the central government. The districts of Famagusta, Kyrenia and part of Nicosia are located within the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Turkish: Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti [KKTC]). However, this de facto state has its own territorial organization.

In turn, the territories of the bases of sovereignty of Acrotiri, in the south of the island, and of Dhekelia, towards the east, are under the command of a administrator designated by the United Kingdom. In these territories there are military bases of the United Kingdom.
