Schloss Boigny
The Boigny Castle is located in Boigny-sur-Bionne in the French department of Loiret near Orléans. Lazarus-Order Edit Source
Boigny Castle was handed over in 1154 by King Louis VII of France to the Military and Hospitial Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem (Lazarus Order) with the recognition of royal status.
After the defeat of the last crucifixion of Akkon in 1291, when almost all Lazarus knights were killed, the order was forced to leave the Holy Land, and Boigny became the seat of the Grand Magisterium until the French Revolution. In 1288, the order of the Order at Boigny Castle was raised to a barony with lower and higher jurisdiction.
Boigny Castle is still the property of the Order. Since 1967, Biogny has been titulary seat of the Lazarus Order; a St. Lazarus-Medico social center has been established there since 1970.
