Padmâvatî
Padmâvatî is an opera in two acts with music by Albert Roussel and libretto by Louis Laloy, based on La légende de Padmanî, reign of Tchitor by Théodore-Marie Pavie, which recounts the legend of the poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi entitled Padmavat (1540). It premiered at the Paris Opera on June 1, 1923. Roussel titled the opera opéra-ballet and there are many dance numbers and opportunities for the show. The composer was inspired by his visit to the ruined city of Chittor in Rajputana (today Rajasthan) and incorporates many features of Hindu music in the score.
