American Horse II (Wasechun Tashunka; * 1840 in den Black Hills; † 16. Dezember 1908 im Pine-Ridge-Reservat, South Dakota) war Häuptling der Oglala-Lakota.
American Horse was a young man in fighting against the Absarokee and Shoshone. When American Horse I fell in battle in 1876, the survivors went to the reserve and American Horse became the recognized leader of his group. At times he accompanied the Buffalo Bill's Wild West show (as did Sitting Bull), but after his return to the reserve, he became unpopular when, from 1887 onwards, he began to break up the reserve in several areas. Sitting Bull was at that time an absolute opponent of the dissolution, since this was associated with considerable land losses. In 1890, American Horse was an opponent of the ghost dance.
In 1891, he traveled to Washington to improve Lakota's living conditions - but he did not have much success. Also other trips to Washington were similarly unsuccessful.
American Horse starb im Pine-Ridge-Reservat.
