The love of Erika Ewald
The love of Erika Ewald is a story of the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, published in 1904. Synopsis
The pianist Erika Ewald falls in love during rehearsals for a concert by a violin virtuoso. Although the nature of his love is initially Platonic - reveling in conversations and walks - little by little grows the desire of the young woman. She confesses her feelings, but considers that she is not yet ready to take the final step and flees at the last moment.
During an indefinite period of waiting, in which both lose contact, Erika begins to mature their relationship even though they feel physically attracted to the young artist. He strives to get a meeting with him, which he finally manages to attend one of his concerts. But when she wants to talk to him, she looks at her with contempt, smiling from afar with an opera singer in her arms.
After initial reflections he decides to take revenge against him by surrendering to the first man he can. Fate saves her from taking this step because she knows that she will never be able to love another human being again.
