Sentai

Sentai (戦 隊) is a Japanese term that can be translated as "attack force" or "regiment". It is better known as the term used in World War II by the Japanese Imperial Army Air Service, referring to a unit composed of two or more squadrons. A sentai was equivalent to an aerial group or to an Ala, according to the denominations of other air forces, and was divided in several chutai or squadrons. The term was also used, to a lesser extent, by the Japanese Imperial Navy Air Service, since the official name was hikōkitai. Other uses of the term

At the present time it is also applied to define a subgenre of anime, manga and tokusatsu typical of Japan in which the protagonists are squadrons or patrols that fight against diverse enemies, being Super Sentai Series, produced by Toei and Bandai and transmitted by TV Asahi since 1975, the most popular sentai genre production.
