Marquisado de Baides
The marquis of Baides was a title of nobility granted in 1621 to Diego López de Zúñiga and Velasco, lord of the town of Baides, located in the province of Guadalajara, Spain. History
The family López de Stúñiga (or Zúñiga) owned the town of Baides since 1428, because there, Diego López de Zúñiga, one of its members, established that year a mayorazgo over that place and its annexed lands. One of his descendants, Francisco López de Zúñiga and of the Cerda, señor de Baides, obtained the transformation of his señorío in marquesado when receiving the title of Castile with the denomination of his property, dated 20 of September of 1621. >
The son of the former, Don Francisco Lopez de Zuniga and Meneses, Marquis de Baides, was governor of Chile and captain-general of the kingdom of Chile between 1639 and 1646. VIII Count of Pedrosa del Rey, Lord of Tovar, gentleman of the Order of Santiago, captain of horses, president of the Real Hearing of Chile.
He was also knight of the Order of Santiago and claimed to be in possession of the title of Count of Pedrosa.
He is currently the owner of the marquisate of Baides, Dolores de Valeriano Márquez by letter of succession of April 24, 1988.
