Central Bureau of Investigation

The CBI is an Indian federal police department founded in 1941. It is subordinate to the Union and reports directly to the government. It is comparable with the American FBI or the German BKA. Tasks Edit sourcetext

The federal structure of India means that cases are basically determined by the police authorities of the federal states, comparable to the German Länder. The CBI will be used to identify particularly sensitive or nationally significant cross-country cases.

The CBI is also the official coordinating office of India for Interpol affairs. The former CBI Director, P.C. Sharma, was elected as Vice-Director of Interpol in October 2003. The reigning CBI director has been Shri Vijay Shankar since 10 December 2005. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
