Eduard Glanzmann was born as the son of a post office worker in Lucerne. He attended the high school there, which he completed in 1909. Subsequently, he studied medicine in Zurich, Berlin and Bern. He graduated from the state in 1912 and in 1914 received his medical doctorate in Berne. In Berlin he trained under Adalbert Czerny at the Charité in pediatrics. After being a pediatrician in Berne, he became a lecturer in 1929 and an associate professor in 1932. In 1939 he followed his former academic teacher, Max Stooss, at the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Bern. For health reasons, he handed over to Ettore Rossi in 1952. In 1940 he became a member of the Leopoldina.
