Ángel Polibio Sánchez Loaiza received the priestly ordination on 3 August 1975.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Guaranda on 25 November 2004. The bishop gave him the bishop of Machala, Néstor Rafael Herrera Heredia, on 18 December of that year; Co-conspirators were Jesús Ramón Martínez de Ezquerecocha Suso, Bishop of Babahoyo, and Raúl Eduardo Vela Chiriboga, Archbishop of Quito. Inauguration in his bishopric followed on 22 December of that year.
