Pakse
Pakse Bridge.
Pakse (in French Paksé) is a city of approximately 87,000 inhabitants located in the south of Laos, at the confluence of the Xé and Mekong rivers.
It is the largest town in the province of Champasak and a natural point of access to the neighboring provinces thanks to its airport and its bridge over the Mekong. It is also the commercial destination of agricultural production (coffee) on the Bolaven Plateau.
Formerly the capital of the Laotian kingdom of Champasak, which was abolished in 1946 when the Kingdom of Laos was created.
Since the construction, with Japanese support, of a Mekong bridge permitting road traffic with Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand, Pakse has become the largest commercial center in southern Laos.
From the tourist point of view, Pakse provides access to the pre-Angkorian monument of Vat Phu and the Khong Falls, which form the border with Cambodia.
