The Modelltto (modelletto, modello "Modell") is the smaller version of a painting, but not yet a preliminary design in the sense of a finished sketch. Modelletti were presented to potential clients as a working example before the definitive award of the contract, they were often so masterful that they could be regarded as true works of art.
