Mariana is a city (and a municipality) in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
It is a tourist town, founded 16 of July of 1696, and it conserves the characteristics of a baroque city, with its churches, buildings and museums.
It was the first town, city and capital of the state. In the seventeenth century, it was one of the largest gold producing cities for the Portuguese crown.
