Kloster Espira-de-l’Agly
Monastery Espira-de-l'Agly was a French monastery of the trappists in Espira-de-l'Agly at Rivesaltes in the bishopric of Perpignan from 1852 to 1904.
Edit HistoryQual
In 1852, the monastery of Notre Dame des Anges in Espira-de-l'Agly (Priory 1860, inauguration of the church in 1883) was granted by a donation to the Lyon-Vaise monastery. In 1904, the successful monastery had to surrender, under public protest, to the separation of church and state (with the dissolution of the religious orders) and went (after a short stay in Alella) to the Spanish monastery Herrera. In 1923 the return to France was carried out by means of a re-colonization of the monastery Échourgnac. In Espira-de-l'Agly, the monastic buildings now house a school that has taken the monastery name (Collège Notre Dames des Anges). Edit Priortext source text Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
