Elias Erkko
Juho Elias Rudolf (Ruuto) Erkko (* 12 April 1863 in Orimattila, 21 November 1888 in Meran) was a Finnish writer, literary critic and translator.
Ruuto Erkko was the youngest brother of the writer Juhana Heikki Erkko and the politician and journalist Eero Erkko. After the completion of the Lyceum, he studied at the University of Helsinki. He worked as a house teacher, literary critic, translator and writer. Erkko was a friend of young literary men around Minna Canth. Through her, he met the actress Hilda Asp, with whom he became engaged. The extensive correspondence between the two was published in 1983 under the title Hilda & Elias, Hilda Aspin, and Elias Erkon kirjeenvaihtoa vuosilta, 1884-88, while the report Pyrstötähti (1883) and the drama Elinan surma (1885) appeared during Erkko's lifetime In 1888 Erkko traveled to Tyrol, where he died at the age of only 25 years.
