Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1953 investiture as the thirty-fourth President of the United States took place on January 20, 1953. Fred M. Vinson's Supreme Court President administers the oath of office. Richard M. Nixon was sworn in as Vice President of Senator William Knowland minutes before California. Eisonhower was the first President to take office on this date, as neither Franklin Roosevelt nor Harry Truman had begun their first term on January 20.
