Cananea-Yaqui River and Pacific Railroad
Cananea-Yaqui River and Pacific Railway, subsidiary of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. History
It was created on April 27, 1905. Initially it connected Guaymas with Guadalajara, but later it was extended to Sonoran cities like Navojoa and Álamos. Later a new project was begun to extend a part of the railroads to Empalme, where it would connect with the Railroad of Sonora. The project was successful in 1906, and that year the construction of another line was planned that would join Guaymas with Nogales and that would connect with the railroads of the Cananea Consolidated Copper Company. The railroad communicated to all of Sonora in 1907. Chinese, Russian, and Mexican labor was employed for this purpose. The railroad disappeared in 1909, when it merged with the Southern Pacific Railroad of Mexico, also of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Bibliography
