Victoria Tower (London)

Victoria Tower

The Victoria Tower is a tower of the Palace of Westminster in London.

The Palace of Westminster, newly built by Charles Barry, has several towers. The highest is the Victoria Tower, 98.45 meters high, a square tower on the south vestibule. He was named after the ruling monarch during the rebuilding period, Queen Victoria. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest rectangular tower in the world.

In the tower is the House of Lords Record Office (Archives of the House of Lords). Despite his name, documents are archived here (both Parliamentary Archives today)

There is a flagpole on the top of the tower: If the monarch is in the building, the Royal Standard is hoisted, otherwise the Union Jack is blowing.

At the foot of the tower is the Sovereign's Entrance; the monarch used this entrance at the opening of the parliament to enter the building.
