Kalaïs and Zetes

Kalaïs (Greek Κάλαϊς) and his twin brother Zetes (Ζήτης) are the sons of Boreas and his wife Oreithyia in Greek mythology.

Both had purping wings, which were either grown with the first beard, or they were a gift from their father to equip them for the ride with the Argonauts. They expelled the harpies that beset King Phineus. They pursued the monsters with their wings. However, since nobody was a witness to this persecution, there are several versions over the exit.

An oracle prophesied to them that if they did not reach a goal, they would have to die. Therefore, it is possible that they have crashed. Or they broke their hunt at the behest of the iris. They then retreated to the island of Telos. There they were killed by Heracles. This was the revenge for having forced the Argonauts to travel further, when Heracles had just moved away from the Argo in search of Hylas. Subsequently, she buried Heracles on the island and erected a column to commemorate her over her grave. When her father Boreas complained about her, this column staggered in the north wind.
