Fish River Canyon

Fish River Canyon.

The Fish River Canyon (German Fischfluss-Canyon) is located in Namibia. It is one of the longest canyons in the world (certainly the largest in Africa), as well as the second tourist attraction visited in Namibia.

It has a 160-kilometer ravine, 27 kilometers wide and 550 meters deep in some places. It has been eroded over the course of 650 million years by the forces of water, wind, gravity and earth movements.

The Fish River is the longest inland river in Namibia, but its flow in the present is modest compared to the volume of water it shed over the past ages. Cut the plateau that is now dry, stony and sparsely covered with drought-resistant plants.

It forms part of the | Ai-Ais / Richtersveld cross-border park, which is a combination of Richtersveld National Park, South Africa, and Ai-Ais, Namibia.
