Elessar (stone)

For the fictional character nicknamed "Elessar", see Aragorn.

Elessar, meaning 'elven stone' in Quenya, is the name of a fictional object of the legendary J. R. R. Tolkien. It is a magic stone, whose creation there are two versions, although both coincide in its description. It is a green stone that enclosed the sunlight and had healing powers. First version In the first version Tolkien wrote, Elessar was created in the Hidden Kingdom of Gondolin by the second best goldsmith among the Noldor after FĂ«anor, Enerdhil. Enerdhil was very fond of plants, and his greatest joy was to see sunlight stream through the leaves of the trees. So he decided to create a jewel that symbolized what he liked the world and made it as green as the leaves and inside it enclosed sunlight. He also gave healing powers and with them healed wounds and withered plants rose again.

Enerdhil gave it to Idril, the daughter of King Turgon of Gondolin, and thanks to her, Idril and his family were able to save themselves from the destruction of Gondolin.
