A university residence is a center that provides accommodation for university students. Frequently the center is integrated or attached to a university, but there are also residences independent of the universities.

University residences are usually located on or near the campus. In general, they usually offer a series of services demanded by the university students, from the lodging and the maintenance to laundry and library.

When the university residences offer cultural, academic, religious or sports activities, in addition to lodging and maintenance, they are denominated major colleges.
