Regula (architecture)
The Regula (Latin Regulae), the Doric droplet, is a small plate with normally six hanging conical or cylindrical drops, the Guttae, under the protruding bar (Taenia) of the Architrave of the Doric order.
The regulae correspond to the triglyphs of the doric triglyph fries. In the early phase of Doric stone architecture, the number of its guttaeae could only be four, and it was not until the second half of the 6th century BC, The number of six Guttae became binding. In the 3rd century BC, A regula and drops could also decorate the underside of ionic Kymatien, as is often found in Alexandrian architecture. Edit source text
