Frederik Ellgaard "Forest Path"
Frederik, originally Friedrich, Ellgaard (* 17 June 1896 in Hadersleben, Denmark, † unknown) was a German-Danish painter, who was mainly known for his landscapes
Frederik Ellgaard was born in 1896, in the then still German Hadersleben in North Schleswig. He was the oldest of six children of street worker Nikolai Ellgaard and Laura Ellgaard. Frederik Ellgaard was interested early in painting and at the age of 19 he wanted to go to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. But it did not happen, he was drafted for military service in the First World War in which he fought on the German side. After the German / Danish vote (Volksabstimmung in Schleswig) in 1920, his father and some of his siblings emigrated to the USA. He decided to stay and accepted Danish citizenship. One of Frederik Ellgaard's signatures "Fr. Kunstell Gaardson" Frederik Ellgaard was mainly known for his oil paintings with rural and rural idylls, which he produced in large numbers during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, for example "Pflügender Bauer", "Heuernte", "Pferde im Bauernhof" and "Grasende" Horses at the River ". More rare are his motifs with fishermen and sailing ships. His paintings hang in many Danish living rooms and some Danish museums. In the 1960s his works became more expressive, such as the motif "Waldweg". If he did not sign his works with "Fr. Ellgaard", his pseudonym was often "Fr. Kunstell Gaardson" (art Ellgaard son).
A cousin of Frederik Ellgaard was the German press illustrator Helmuth Ellgaard and his nephew first degree the American biologist and Professor Erik G. Ellgaard. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
