An emergency stop in animal protection is an accommodation for animals in need, similar to a shelter, but this is managed and financed by a private person and is not supported by the state. As a rule, these stations do not belong to any club. Unlike a care center that acts for a club, the lead person acts unauthorized.

An emergency station requires authorization according to § 11 TierSchG, which is to be obtained from the competent Veterinary Office.
