Hans Lala

After attending the compulsory schools, Hans Lala completed his apprenticeship as a tanner's occupation. In 1945, he became an official in the state labor office for Upper Austria and in the same year socialist trustman in the union public service. From 1961 to 1968 he held the post of chairman of the trade union of public servants of Upper Austria, and from 1965 to 1968 he was a member of the SPÖ federal executive committee.
His political career began in 1955, when he was elected to the municipal council of the state capital Linz. In 1967, he was elected as a town councilor by a simple member of the municipal council. Two years later, in 1969, he was elected vice-mayor of Linz under the acting SP mayor Franz Hillinger. He worked in this function until 1983.
