Gertrud Grob-Prandl


Gertrud Grob Prandl was a Viennese soprano born on November 11, 1917 and died in Vienna on May 16, 1995.

Dramatic Soprano voice, one of the most powerful of the century, according to experts with flow similar to those of Birgit Nilsson, Astrid Varnay and Eva Turner.

He dedicated himself preferently to the Wagnerian song: Isolda, Brünnhilde, Elisabeth, Kundry and as Ariadne and Elektra by Richard Strauss, was also an appreciated Turandot by Puccini.

He sang under the direction of great conductors of the time as Victor of Sabata, Clemens Krauss, Sir John Barbirolli with whom he debuted at Covent Garden as Turandot in 1951.

It was very popular in Italy and in 1950 caused a sensation in the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires as La Valquiria and Leonora de Fidelio directed by Karl Böhm; in 1953 it was Amelia and Brunilda in the Opera of San Francisco.

He retired in 1972. He left very few recordings.
