Sommertheater Winterthur
The Winterthur Summer Theater is a free-lance theater in Winterthur. It has existed since 1865, making it the oldest theater in the city. Playing time is from June to September.
Since its founding, the summer theater has been playing in its present place, although until 1881 not in the garden of the restaurant Strauss, but first simply in the open park. At the time of the founding, it was mainly theatrical groups who played in the summer theater. Today, the summer theater has a permanent ensemble. Since 1890 the summer theater has been played every year after a previous five-year break. In 1952 an annual deficit guarantee of 4,000 francs was granted to the theater by the city, and since 1964 it has also been subsidized. The canton of Zurich has been supporting the theater since 1974. Director of the Theater edit sourcetext
