Neighborhood Rivadavia I and II
«Barrio Rivadavia» redirects here. For the town of the Province of Mendoza, Argentina, see Barrio Rivadavia (Mendoza).
The Municipal District President Rivadavia I and II is a housing complex that is located in the area known as Bajo Flores, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was destined to social housing with the purpose of eradicating an emergency town that was in the lands where the neighborhood was raised. Neighborhood Rivadavia I
The first stage was planned in 1984 by the Municipal Housing Commission (CMV), whose teams were formed by various architects, including Juan Manuel Borthagaray. Various collaborators and advisors also participated. He was part of the groups prepared for the National Housing Plan 1984/1989 of the presidency of Raúl Alfonsín, financed with funds from FONAVI through the Ministry of Housing and Environmental Planning.
Rivadavia I was actually conceived as the urbanization of the existing town, demolishing all the houses that were considered inadequate or with danger of collapse (40% of the existing ones), opening streets and passages that allowed vehicular traffic, building parking spaces and parking docks. 638 houses were maintained (all on one floor) and 463 new houses of the ground floor and first floor duplex were built (2 families per building). The design of these was very similar to those of the neighboring Barrio Presidente Illia, built by the same Plan.
In addition, a community, educational and recreation center was built, comprising a plaza, the community center itself, the Municipal School No. 12 (DE 19) "José Enrique Rodó" and the Integral Kindergarten No. 1 OF 19) "Manuel Belgrano". Neighborhood Rivadavia II
Later, a set of 15 ground-floor and first-floor buildings of different design were built on a plot of land intended for the neighborhood but still unoccupied, following the "strip" model that encompasses several housing units. A new road of vehicular traffic and a new parking lot for its inhabitants opened. Sources
