Marius Sandberg
Marius Diederik Christoph Sandberg (born September 5, 1896 in Padang, dutch-india, † March 19, 1986) was a Dutch footballer.
The son of a Dutch infantry officer was born on Sumatra; but his family moved to the Netherlands before his eleventh birthday, where his mother died in 1907.
In the 1920s, Sandberg played football at HVV Den Haag. In 1926 he was repeatedly called into the squad of the national team. In the 5-0 win against Switzerland on 28 March, the midfielder still sat on the bench, but three weeks later he gave his debut in Düsseldorf with the 2: 4 defeat against the hosts from the German Reich Oranje. Also on 2 May he was in the start formation in Amsterdam against Belgium; the Elftal lost 1: 5. Once again, he was allowed to travel with the team to the next match in Copenhagen against Denmark, but had now again to sit on the bench. He did not receive further invitations from the KNVB selection committee. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
