Battle of Bratislava (1052)
The Battle of Bratislava (Hungarian: pozsonyi csata) was a conflict unleashed in 1052, where Emperor Henry III the Black invaded Hungary and was expelled from the Hungarian city of Bratislava by King Andrew I of Hungary. > Background to the conflict
A few months before, the Battle of VĂ©rtes had been liberated in 1051, in which Emperor Henry III had attempted to invade Hungary by land, being defeated. However, soon after, his river fleet advanced from Germanic territory across the Danube River and set out to besiege the city of Bratislava. The battle After a short time of siege, according to Hungarian legend one (Zotmund) or more Magyar warriors had drilled in the night the helmets of the ships of the German emperor. This action would succeed in sinking part of the German fleet and forced the army of Enrique III to return again to safe ground, leaving Hungary and definitively its pretensions of subjecting the kingdom to vassalage.
