The thousand origami cranes.

The thousand cranes of shinigami (千 羽 鶴, Senba-tsurú) are a set of thousand origami cranes joined by threads.

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who makes a thousand paper cranes will receive a wish from a crane, such as a long life or recovery from illness.

The thousand origami cranes have become a symbol of peace, due to the story of Sadako Sasaki (1943-1955), a small Japanese girl who wanted to cure her disease caused by the atomic bomb radiation (leukemia ).

There is a tale by Elsa Bornemann, "A Thousand Cranes", which deals with the same theme: Naomi Watanabe and Toshiro Ueda are two teenagers from Hiroshima and he is visiting his grandparents in the village of Miyashima when the bomb falls. And then finds Naomi in a hospital trying to make cranes, Toshiro completes the thousand and gives them to the girl, but she dies the next day. 31 years later. Toshiro is 42, married, has 3 children and is the manager of a branch of a bank in London. Serious and uncommunicative, but nevertheless always find a pair of origami cranes on his desk. Fulfilling Naomi's desire to never forget her. Bibliography
