Robert Mood


Robert Mood (* 8 December 1958 in Kragerø, Telemark) is a Norwegian general lieutenant. He was a general inspector of the Norwegian Army, headed UNTSO from 2009 to 2011 and was the first head of UNSMIS.

Robert Mood is married and has a son.

Mood started his military career in 1979. He served as a group, platoon leader and company commander in the Brigade i Nord-Norge. Meanwhile, he visited the Krigsskolen in Oslo. During the civil war in Lebanon he served in the staff of the Norwegian UNIFIL battalion. In 1993, he became deputy commander of the Telemark battalion. After training with the United States Marine Corps he served until 1998 in the staff of the 6th Division. He then became commander of the Telemark battalion, which was deployed in Kosovo in 1999-2000. As head of the planning staff of the Norwegian Oberkommandos, he was promoted to Colonel in 2000. In 2002, Mood was promoted to the brigade and in 2004 head of the Hærens Transformasjons- og Doktrinekommandos. After the dismissal of Lars Sølvberg, Mood was appointed general officer of the Army in 2005.

In January 2009, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon appointed him the new head of UNTSO. Mood took the post until 2011. He supported the UN Special Representative for the United Nations and the Arab League for Syria Kofi Annan from the beginning of April 2012 and was named Head of UNSMIS on April 27, On July 20, 2012, he handed over the post to Senegalese general lieutenant Babacar Gaye.

Mood was promoted to lieutenant-general on 23 January 2014 and head of the Norwegian Military Mission at NATO's European headquarters in Brussels. Single-level Edit source text
