Ivan Monteiro de Barros Lins


Ivan Monteiro de Barros Lins (born April 16, 1904 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, June 16, 1975) was a Brazilian essayist and philosopher.

Lins visited Colégio Anglo-Americano and Colégio Arnaldo in Belo Horizonte. In 1917 he moved to Rio de Janeiro where he joined his medical school in 1930 when he was already a positivist. In 1932 he became secretary of the Estação Experimental de Combustíveis e Minérios, and in 1937 professor of philosophy at the Law Faculty of the Universidade do Brasil. During the Vargas era, he was appointed Minister of the Federal Court of Accounts, of which he was President. In 1957 he became a member of the Academia Brasileira de Letras, whose cadeira 1 he occupied.
