Editorial seal

An imprint is the trade name under which a work is published by an editorial company. The same company may have multiple publishing labels, and these are often used to promote works in different demographic segments.

Each publishing label usually targets a particular audience, and they differ by the selection of authors, styles, format and quality of the edited works. Large publishing companies may have dozens of publishing labels. In many cases, the diversity of labels under one publisher is often the result of previous mergers and acquisitions. The publishing group Penguin Random House, for example, publishes works under the labels Aguilar, Alfaguara, Debate, Debolsillo and Grijalbo, among others.
