Church of San Cipriano (Onion)
The parish church of San Cipriano was commissioned by the commissioner of the Holy Office, D. Fernando Martín, a native of Cebolla and his own priest, personally contributing large sums. Built at the end of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century, it is perhaps the most representative monument of the town. Already in 1632 the visitador of the Archbishopric of Toledo, Miguel Ferro Manrique, recognizes the church of Cebolla like one of the most lucid of his party.
It is built on a small Mozarabic church, of which there are scarcely any remains: the baptismal font and some stones. The remains of the previous church were sold, as evidenced the transfer of the pulpit to some nuns of Torrijos or reused in the construction of the new one
Documented in the Factory Book is the payment made to Toledo teachers to make the new pillars of the church that replaced the columns of the previous one, some of them are in the park annex These pillars were brought to light in the process of conditioning the church in the year 2000.
The construction of the temple was to be completed by 1632, the same year, the construction of the tower began, the work of Fray Lorenzo de San Nicolás, architect of the tower of the church of Los Navalmorales, of the dome and chapel major of the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Prado, in Talavera de la Reina, of the convent and of the church of the Real conception of Calatrava among others. In the annotation of the book of factory is misunderstood the name and figure Fray Lorenzo of San Minicas.
It was consecrated on July 10, 1611 by Melchor de Soria y Vera, general visitor of the Archdiocese of Toledo, together with the surrounding cemetery, which popularly in Cebolla is known as "El Cementerio", which are the adjacent gardens and Calle Huesario.
