Robert Chartham


Robert Chartham (England, June 5, 1911 - February 1, 1985) was an English sexologist. He was educated at the Sorbonne, in Paris, and at the University of Cambridge. He got his doctorate in philosophy, in the specialty of social sciences.

Dr. Chartham's experience as a consultant began in 1930 when, as a social worker, he was the first person to teach sex education for teens in the UK. His background includes teaching and mentoring at European universities, conferences on How to Enjoy Sex for British undergraduates and usually acting as an advisor at his own London clinic. He was the author of several books, including Mainly for Wives in 1963, Sex for Advanced Lovers in 1970 and The Sensuous Couple in 1971. It was editorial consultant of Forum: The International Journal of Human Relations (Forum: The International Journal of Human Relations). Each year he personally answered more than 4,000 letters from readers around the world who sought help in solving their sexual problems.
