Influenzavirus A subtype H7N7
Influenzavirus A subtype H7N7 is a subtype of Influenzavirus A (virus of influenza A), belonging to the family of Orthomyxoviridae, genus Orthomyxovirus. This virus causes infection in birds, although it can affect humans, pigs, seals, horses and laboratory mice.
In 2003, an outbreak in the Netherlands led to 89 confirmed human cases and one death, with antibodies found in more than half of a group of 500 people who were exposed to infection. Human cases were secondary to an epidemic that affected poultry from different farms located in the area. Other outbreaks have occurred in Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, Spain and the United States among other countries. The disease is easily spread among birds, causing great mortality, but hardly passes to man and is considered very unlikely the transmission from one human to another. Most cases in humans. have occurred in workers of poultry farms, veterinarians or people in close contact with birds, presenting in general mild symptoms, emphasizing conjunctivitis.
