Exploration (mountain rescue)

A probing is the scanning of an avalanche cone using avalanche sensors. It is an important component of the avalanche spill search, which is used either alone or complementary to other search methods (LVS device, RECCO or rescue dog).

When only avalanche probes are used, a search group progresses slowly into a narrow row, probing at each step.

Used in combination with other search methods, the probing is used to determine the position of the victim after point location. As a result, the recovery time can be significantly shortened because it is not possible to pass the buried or an unnecessarily large hole. Systematic fine-tuning Systematically probing

A systematic approach is very important when exploring, as it can be explored so efficiently and without gaps. The first puncture point should be located in the center of a ski-to-cross cross at the point location. Thereafter, the staves are interspersed at intervals of about 20 cm on the poles and in the interstices. The diagram shows schematically the procedure for systematic probing. The black strokes symbolize the stick cross, the red dots are the puncturing points when probing. If nothing is found within the Stock Cross, it is important not to stop at the end of the Stock Cross, but to keep the sticks prolonged and systematically continue to explore.
