Ear

Øre (plural: øre) is the centesimal subdivision of the Norwegian and Danish crown. In the Faroe Islands the division is called oyra, but it is of equal value to the Danish currency. Before its suspension, the corresponding divisions of the Swedish krona and the Icelandic crown were öre and eyrir, respectively. In five languages, the name derives from the Latin aureus, a gold coin equivalent to 25 denarii.

On 23 February 1992 it was announced that the Norwegian currency of 10 øre would no longer be used and the following year it ceased to be legal tender. Since 1993, the only Norwegian currency in use with a value below NOK 1 was 50 øre, and on 1 May 2012 it was announced that it would not be used again. The original value was the coins of 1 -, 2 -, 5 -, 10 - 25 and 50 øre.

The Danish currency of 25 øre ceased to be legal tender on 1 October 2008. The only Danish currency currently in use with a value below a Danish krone is 50 øre.
