Larry Gogan (born May 6, 1938) is an Irish radio and television supporter. Little is known about his private life. He began his career after compulsory schooling in the 1960s with the state-run Irish radio station RTÉ. At the start of Radio 2 (today 2FM) in 1979, he was the first person whose first words went over the aether and the first piece he played was Like Clockwork from the Boomtown Rats.
Although he is still in the age of retirement, he still works for 2FM. However, his daily broadcast The Golden Hour was relocated to a new broadcasting station at his own request. Since the beginning of 2007 she has only been broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays.
The main part of his program is the Just a minute quiz, in which the telephone candidates have to try to answer as many questions as possible within one minute. Since a lot of oldies are played in his show, it is a break in the music program of 2FM, which normally plays top 40 titles. Due to his long experience as a Radiomoderator, he has received a large number of prizes and awards. The most curious is the award at the 5th Shanghai Radio Music Festival in 1988.
In addition to his work as a Radiomoderator he has also moderated several programs on television.
In his honor, RTÉ has named a studio after him, which he commented with a laugh: "They normally only do it when you're dead." Weblinks Edit sourcetext
