The emblem of Tyrol is an award given by the Austrian state of Tyrol. It shows the silver-gilt Tyrolean eagle, surrounded by an oval patinated silver strip, on which a ribbon loop with the inscription "AQUILA TIROLIS DIGNITATE HONESTO" is attached above the head of the eagle. In this way people who are honored with political, economic, cultural or humanitarian activities around Tyrol are honored. The sign of honor was introduced by law on 30 November 1955 and is given annually by the Tyrolean regional government on February 20, the day of Andreas Hofer's death. The number of the annual awards is limited to twelve and traditionally South Tyroleans are also considered. The President of the Tiroler Landtag and the Landeshauptmann of Tyrol receive the honorary mark with the day of their election for lifetime. The mark of honor and the certificate issued for it shall be the property of the Awarded. A return obligation after his death does not exist, both can pass into the property of another person, which has however no tragic right. Each holder of an honorary mark is entitled to wear the mark of honor as a pin or as a silver-gilt chain around his neck and to designate himself as the owner. Other privileges are not associated with the award. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
