Wilhelm Caspari (Jurist)

Wilhelm Caspari (* 14 August 1874 in Berlin; † 1 November 1936 ibid) was a German lawyer and local politician from Berlin.

Wilhelm Caspari came from a Jewish family and was baptized in 1897. After studying law and political science at the University of Berlin, he joined the Prussian judicial service and worked first in Brandenburg on the Havel. In 1901 he married Lina Otzen, a daughter of architect Johannes Otzen. In 1914 he became judge of the district court of Berlin, from 1920 he was active at the chamber court, in 1928 he became senate president.

After World War I, Caspari entered the German People's Party (DVP) and committed himself to local politics. From 1921 to 1924 he was the head of the city council of Berlin; in 1930 the city council elected him to the Prussian State Council.

In April 1933, Caspari was taken to the Senate as a Senate president, but he could not be dismissed after a derogation from the law for the restoration of the professional civil service, since he had become an official before 1914. In July 1933, he was transferred to the Berlin-Mitte District Court, and retired on 1 January 1936.
