The well is the first novel by the Uruguayan writer Juan Carlos Onetti, published in 1939. Argument
Written during a weekend in which the narrator ran out of tobacco, the novel is a journal in which its protagonist, Eladio Linacero, overturns his skepticism for existence and life in general, and evades it from of various dreams that come to his mind, and especially one, born from a real fact occurred in adolescence. In this short novel is prefigured the theme that would resume and develop more deeply in La vida breve, where the protagonist creates the fictitious city of Santa MarĂa.
