Madaktu was the royal residence of Elam in the time of the Neuelamian Empire (about 1000 BC until 650 BC) and is often referred to in Assyrian texts. The city was plundered by Aššur-bani-apli. Madaktu is perhaps identical to the 6-hectare ruin hill Tepe Patak (about 40 km west of Susa), but this identification is not assured. Since Madaktu has not been localized and excavated so far, there are also few sources from the time of the Neuelamian Empire to the Elamian rulers, as they were certainly active mainly in their capital.
Perhaps it is the badake mentioned by Greek authors. The city is depicted on a New Assyrian relief and therefore had a city wall, one or two temples and was surrounded by a river on two sides. Edit source text
