José Arellano Castelló
José Arellano Castelló (Fraga 1921 - idem 1997) Spanish contemporary ceramist, founder of the group Ceramistas Arellano. Biography
Born in Fraga and continuing a saga of potters more than 300 years old, he began his apprenticeship with his father.
In 1968, animated by the ceramist Josep Llorens i Artigas, he directed his style towards the artistic ceramics forming the group Ceramistas Arellano with his daughter Mª Carmen, to which Joaquín Javierre later joins.
In the 1970s, it produced its national projection as exponents of the contemporary Aragonese ceramics, winning several prizes, among them a National Prize of Ceramics (1976). They have held exhibitions in Spain, France and Germany and their pieces are part of public and private collections at an international level.
Author of the monument tribute to the "gifts of faldetes", The Fragatina, donated to the city council of Fraga and that presides the square of Spain (place of the city council) from the 23 of April of 1982.
After his death in 1997, his home town awarded him the Medal of the City of Fraga and gave his name to the street where he lived.
