Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Apucarana on July 8, The archbishop of Curitiba, Moacyr José Vitti CSS, gave him the bishop's consecration on the 28th of August of that year; The co-conquerors were Pedro Antônio Marchetti Fedalto, Curitiba's archbishop, and Luiz Vicente Bernetti OAD, archbishop of Apucarana.
