Casimir Lefaucheux was a designer and manufacturer of French weapons. He was born in Bonnétable on January 26, 1802 and died in Paris on August 9, 1852. Following the works of Jean Samuel Pauly between 1808 and 1812, Casimir Lefaucheux invented one of the first cartridge systems in 1836, incorporating a spike as initiator. In 1846, the Lefaucheux system was improved by Benjamin Houllier, who introduced one of the first Lefaucheux cartridges to be used as the Lefaucheux cartridge. In 1858, the Lefaucheux Model 1858 revolver was the first metal cartridge revolver adopted by a national government. Notes
