Sankt Johann am Pressen is a village and cadastral municipality of the market town of Hüttenberg in Carinthia with 107 inhabitants (as of 30 October 2011).
The small village is very secluded on a mountain peak at 1250 m above sea level. A. Altitude above the Mosinztal. The landscape is characterized by agriculture, especially cattle farming. In the long term, a steady population decline can be observed due to the isolated situation. Thus the number of houses was reduced from 89 to 72 between 1869 and 1971.
The Romanesque church of St. John was already built in 1130 by the Salzburg ministerial and cleric Rudbert. Several Roman inscriptions in the church wall point to an early settlement and show that there was already a mining here in Late Antiquity. There are also some gravestones of aristocratic families in the cemetery.
